I endured med school and then residency as a ‘dreamer’ much like Jamie Brin (muddling through with the malady “Attention Deficit Disorder” affixed to my life).  I wrote this story as a means of memorizing waterfalls of boring medical factoids.

I did manage to survive my arduous medical training, becoming a licensed doctor in 2009.  I now practice as a civilian Family Physician caring for wounded U.S. Army soldiers in Germany.

I'm addicted to travel. This is why I live in Germany now, and why I chose my particular med school - 3 of the 4 years are spent at Ben Gurion University in Beer Sheva, Israel.  I traveled regularly through the Middle East and loved every minute of it.  In particular, the book represents a personal effort to make emotional sense of my experiences in the Old City of Jerusalem .

As for writing accolades, I am by every definition a new writer.  I wrote a recurring column in "My Family Doctor" magazine until it went belly-up (through no fault of my own, I hope).  I wrote an article for the science section of The Oregonian newspaper on the drug Vioxx, and I maintained a blog through residency that generated 100 to nearly a thousand hits per day (Dr. Secretwave101) which has recently morphed into a more literary-focused blog (Blood Like Verse).  Hundreds of writing samples are availble at these sites, as are links to the YouTube files showing my 15 minutes of fame on national television.
